Our Story

“Our story began at Flanigan’s on December 21, 2015. Mari was living in New Jersey at the moment but flew down to Florida for the holidays. Our mutual friend Melissa invited her out to dinner for one of my friends birthday and that was when we first met. At the end of the night, Mari went back to New Jersey and I didn’t hear from her for two years.” – Kevin

“Two years later I graduated from college and despite my plans to live in NJ forever, I found myself moving back home to Miami. Kevin’s friends planned a BBQ for Memorial Day weekend and once again our mutual friend Melissa invited me to go with her. Kevin was a bit oblivious to my obvious crush on him and I ended up making the first move!” – Mariancely
“We spent the next five months getting to know each other better and spending time with our mutual friends to make sure we were a good fit. Finally on October 21, 2017 I asked Mari to be my girlfriend.” – Kevin

The Engagement

“We decided that on December 21 of every year we would eat at Flanigan’s to celebrate the first night we met. On December 21, 2020, we were celebrating 5 years of having met! We wanted it to be special so we decided to get dressed up instead of wearing our usual jeans and t-shirt. Little did I know, Kevin had a surprise planned to really make the night special. After dinner, we walked over to the Weston Town Center to look at the pretty Christmas lights. We work in the area but due to the pandemic and working from home, I had not been able to see the Christmas lights that year. As we’re getting closer to the huge Christmas tree, I felt that Kevin was a bit off. From one moment to the next, he was down on his knees with a ring in his hands and I was a crying mess!

Through the tears, I SAID YES!” – Mariancely
